Stafford County, Virginia Warrant Search

Yes. The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., guarantees the public’s right to access some warrant-related information where it appears in court case records, sheriff records, magistrate processes, jail records, or non-exempt law-enforcement records.

This means the public may request government records, including warrant-related information, from custodian agencies, unless certain exemptions apply. Some criminal investigative files are not available to the public during an ongoing investigation or court proceeding.

Court and criminal procedure rules may also affect access to warrant-related information. Virginia Code Title 19.2, Chapter 5 governs access to search warrants and sets out rules on what law enforcement may search and seize, as well as how warrants are issued.
